In-N-Out Burger: 1 – Big Ten: 0

Officials for the beloved and oft-raved-about In-N-Out Burger chain have announced an unprecedented move.  The restaurant will open a new franchise location far away from their comfortable confines of the west coast…in Dallas.

This news comes as a surprise to anyone who has tasted the deliciousness first-hand but has been made to suffer due to separation from it by hundreds, sometimes thousands, of miles.  The same people who often wonder: “When will they open an In-N-Out near me?” are now just left to ponder: “Why now? And, why Texas?”

Well, this isn’t the first time a geographically-specific entity has looked to expand beyond its natural borders into the Lone Star state.  As covered on this very site…ad nauseum… the Big Ten Conference is currently weighing all options of expanding its imperial footprint to include, among others, the likes of New Jersey, Nebraska, California, and/or, yes, Texas.

Perhaps the Big Ten can take a page from the playbook of the West Coast’s favorite burger joint and figure out a way to get their non-Justin’d foot in the door.

Until that time, all I can say about this development is that, while it’s nice that there will now be an In-N-Out Burger some 700 miles closer to (albeit, still 1,600 miles away from) my house, I have to stick to my vow to only step foot in the state of Texas, and Dallas in particular, under the most dire of circumstances.  And even though the fresh taste of a double-double with fries is tempting, it’s not life or death.

So, for now, it looks like Vegas is still the closest option.

Finally, my last story of unwanted sex stories happened in college. I was probably a junior and had really come into my own in regards to picking up ladies and landing hotter chicks than would seem likely. As explained before, I had become a master of the temporary breakup and was able to mess around with pretty much anyone I wanted to, I just needed about a week to lay the groundwork to make it a sure thing. I have since moved from “Master” to “God.” To clarify, now I’ve got a pretty good chance of laying that groundwork the day I meet a girl and if not, a phone call before our first “date” will seal the deal.

But, in these times of great learning, as college is meant to be, I was still getting a feel for the art of the fast pick up. My roomate, we’ll call him “Evil Twin,” all through college is pretty much the guy, that if he was a girl, would be my wife. As it is, girls aren’t nearly as cool as this guy, so I’m still single and really pretty happy about that. And, like the perfect couple, we bring out the best traits in each other. So, whereas I might take a week to lay the groundwork with a girl on my own, with him there, it would either happen that night or we’d shoot past the window of their interest and move right to that stage, you know, where you’ve dumped the girl and all she thinks about is keying your car or cutting off your johnson. That’s where a lot of my relationships end up. Miraculously, I still have my wang (and it’s glorious) and a nice looking car.

But I digress. On this particular occasion, Evil Twin had his sights set on this girl and there was no shaking it, so we decided to go to her house because she was throwing a party. She was a smoking hot girl and this was a noble quest. The downside to the plan was that she was on the girl’s rugby team. Now, I’m not sure if any of you have met a rugby gal, but there are two distinct types. There are the ones that are in great shape and are super fast. Occasionally, some of those girls who are fast and in great shape don’t have butter faces. Now, on the other hand, rugby is a physical sport and they have to tackle. About 2/3 of the girls are big. Big as in fat. Big as in strong. Big as in tall. Scary fucking women.

2010 FIFA World Cup 2010 – Group F

In continuing with the EJSIC World Cup preview, we move on to Group F which contains the defending world champions, Italy. The group also features South American nation Paraguay, Oceania representative New Zealand, and the eastern European nation of Slovakia.

Matches: 6/14 vs Paraguay, 6/20 vs New Zealand, 6/24 vs Slovakia

Analysis: The defending champions are the clear favorites to win Group F and advance in their quest to win back-to-back championships for the second time in their history (1934 and 1938 being the other time). In the last 4 years, the Italians have seen their veteran team age, and it seems logical that 2010 could be the last hurrah for I Nazionale’s (team nickname) current make-up.

Matches: 6/14 vs Italy, 6/20 vs Slovakia, 6/24 vs New Zealand

Analysis: Paraguay was impressive in CONMEBOL (South America) qualifying for the World Cup for the fourth consecutive time. They also face a favorable path for advancement in South Africa with the only real juggernaut to worry about being Italy. A win against Slovakia would put Paraguay in driver’s seat for advancement.

Analysis: Slovakia is competing as an independent nation in the World Cup for the first time in its history, although it has previously participated as the now defunct Czechoslovakia. Slovakia also enters the tournament with high confidence after winning their qualifying group in Europe. Some of their players have gained experience playing in the high European leagues, most notably the German Bundesliga. They also have a good shot to advance to the knockout stage.

New Zealand

All-time Record: 0-0-3
Matches: 6/15 vs Slovakia, 6/20 vs Italy, 6/24 vs Paraguay

Analysis: New Zealand dominated in Oceania qualifying, especially after Australia left for the easier paths of Asia. However, New Zealand is one of the worst-ranked teams in the entire tournament so it is hard to envision them winning a game, let alone advancing to the next stage.

Predictions

Group Winner: Italy
Group Runner-up: Paraguay

Match to Watch: Paraguay vs Slovakia. Paraguay and Slovakia will be battling for second place in Group F which makes their match all the more important. It stands to reason that both teams will drop a match to Italy and win a match against New Zealand. So, the winner of the Slovakia and Paraguay could be the eventual group runner-up.
