  1. What’s up with the bloated RPI’s in the A10?

I’d also like to thank Georgia Tech and Pitt for losing as I’m compiling the poll.

    Way to go.

  2. I forgot Georgia Tech in my poll, but their performance today made it not such a big deal.

But seriously, after about the top 8, you could conceivably make a case for about 50 other teams. I never realized making a top 25 could be so difficult.

  3. Northern Iowa was being ranked on the strength of their overall record, rather than any actual wins of note. If not for the complete lack of quality teams this year, I don’t think they would have been in the poll last week either.

While I was examining the resumes of these teams, I noticed the same thing about Clemson. I think they’ve benefited from already being in the poll. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn’t vote them in.

After you get past 16-17, it’s really tough to find worthy teams to rank. No one really stands out, so you have to rely on the “look” test as much as anything.

  4. I’d say after 6 or 7 it gets tough. Lots of parity in CBB this season. And, there are alot of teams right outside the Top 25 that may be just as good or better than the last 15 teams.

I wanted to put Uconn in, but just couldn’t. And, Clemson and OSU got to go right now, IMHO. Jekyl and Hyde teams.

  5. The MVC is no slouch conference, though. Northern Iowa only has two losses. Their schedule hasn’t been terrible, with 7 games against the RPI top 100 (6-1 record). The fact is that they have two losses when we have teams with 4, 5, and 6 losses in the top 25 (and a 6 loss UConn team received more votes).

  8. Northern Iowa’s best wins are Siena, Boston College and Missouri State. Balance that out with the fact that they lost to Depaul and the first MVC team with a pulse that they played on the road (Wichita State), and I don’t think there’s much of an argument for putting them in there.

If there’s not anything about a team that screams “Top 25″, I think you have to start comparing teams head to head. There’s not a team in our Top 25 that I wouldn’t take over UNI in a neutral court game.

If someone wants to rank them for only having 2 losses, I understand that, but I just can’t do it. They’ve beaten no one that says they’re a top 25 team. I’m not even sure they can get into the tournament without winning the auto-bid.
